Snorkeling In Aruba

My 3 Favorite Places to Snorkel in Aruba

1 Malmok Beach in Noord:

Malmok beach is a very small beach but the snorkeling going off of each side of the beach along the ledges is spectacular. This is one of the stops for many of the snorkeling sailing tours.

From our condo you would need a car or to take Arubus which has a stop at the Malmok Beach

This is the beach where we have seen starfish, squid, trigger fish, needle fish, sea urchins and many varieties of tropical fish.

You need to be a fairly good swimmer because there water can get 10 - 15 feet deep off of the ledges. However, there are not strong currents or large waves.

2 Signature Park at Palm Beach:

Signature park is located at the beginning of Palm Beach where the high rise hotels are located. There is a small reef off of the beach and there are a variety of fish on each side of the reef.

From our condo you can walk the 1.7 miles to get to the beach in about a 1/2 hour.

At this reef we have seen squid, a sea turtle one time, a young barracuda, sea urchins, some larger fish on the outside of the reef and many varieties of tropical fish.

This is a great spot for beginning snorkelers as the water is not deep and there are sandy places which are not deep where you can stand near the reef. However, because you are near the high rise hotel/resorts you need to be aware of your surroundings and look out for boats and jet skis.

3 Baby Beach at San Nicolas:

Baby Beach is located at eastern tip of Aruba The beach surrounds a cove with a gorgeous beach and swim area.

From our condo you need a car to make the 18 mile drive which will take you about 45 minutes. If you decide to visit Baby Beach it is worth exploring some of the other sites on this side of the island.

At this reef we have seen a large variety of tropical fish and wonderful coral formations.

This is a great spot for beginning snorkelers to see some of the fish in the roped off swim area. However, if you want to see the really nice coral formations and some of the more exotic fish you need to be a very strong swimmer and excellent snorkeler to go up into the reef area where the sites and really special. There are extremely strong currents but if you are strong enough to get up into the coral formations you can let the current drift you back into the cove while you enjoy the underwater beauty. Be careful not to swim past the cove area out into the open sea as the are extremely strong currents which can pull you out into the ocean.
